The joyful noise of jingle bells
Rings out across the silent night,
The midnight sleigh ride’s twinkling lights
Reflecting a blue Christmas
In the sheen of freshly fallen snow.
We race through winter wonderlands
To the warming cheer
Of a welcoming fireplace,
Safe behind the frosty panes
Of windows striped like candy canes,
The halls bedecked with jolly garlands,
Ribbons gathered into bows
Which decorate the gifts and stockings,
Evergreen wreaths, shining stars.
We keep the cardinal traditions,
Leaving out an eggnog mug
And plate of fresh baked sugar cookies
Should Saint Nicolas come to call.
And whether we’ve been naughty or nice
We’ll bundle up in polar bear blankets,
Sip hot apple cider
By a merry roaring fire,
Staying warm and safely tucked away
From Jack Frost’s creeping, freezing grasp
And doze to Noel carols
As we wait for dawn…
